thoughts for a rainy wedding day

RAIN IS GOOD LUCK, it may not feel that way but after photographing several rainy day weddings I can say it can be beautiful, whimsical, and invites out of the box thinking which I love. your team (vendors) are here to help adjust plans as needed to make sure your wedding day is beautiful, rain or shine. my main note to my brides is this- I am totally comfortable, this isn’t the first time I have had a wedding in the rain and I have grown to love working with the it to create timeless, playful, and exquisite photos.

clear umbrellas
I love clear umbrellas because they don’t block out the scenery or take away from the atmosphere but they add a fun prop and it also makes the rain a dreamy aesthetic to your photos. I carry about 5 to rainy day weddings but if you are up for bridal party photos outdoors I suggest 1 per 2-3 people. (if you have 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen +you & your love, you will need 8-11 umbrellas)

think outside the box for photos
porches are a great option and easy to find. have a option or two of picture perfect indoor location options, setting up lighting in an indoor location like twinkle lights in a barn. We will be able to find perfect locations to capture the moments throughout your day.

it doesn’t last all day
in my experience, there are always breaks in the rain. we can take full advantage of those breaks to make sure we get some photos outdoors if at all possible. This does require a little bit of flexibility- but if you are up for it, it’ll be worth it.

tips for your dress
Some of my brides are totally comfortable with the idea of rain and are completely down to do everything planned if the rain is mild. some of my brides feel very uncomfortable with rain and we move all plans inside… no matter where you land I know your are thinking about your dress and how you will keep it as clean as possible before your ceremony.
+ I also would enlist your bridesmaids to help lift your dress off the ground when transitioning around outside.
+ bring rainboots to walk in and have a shoe bag for your shoes to put on before the ceremony. give one of your bridesmaids the job of keeping up with these shoes.
+think about getting a fabric protector on the bottom of your dress to keep it as clean as possible while outdoors. I had a bride do this and share the tip with me and it worked well for her day (professional cleaners often do this and thats preferred, although scotchgaurd does make a protective sprays please research before self application)

overcast weather makes for perfect lighting and we can work together to make the day as you imagined.
now, let’s make some rainy day magic.
